Repairs

Profiled Steel Sheeted Roofs

Random repairs, such as simple sheet replacement, fitting overlay sheets or the installation of new flashings may be adequate to resolve minor issues. Leaking fixings can be replaced, sheet end laps can be coated and extrusions can be correctly flashed in and sealed.

Replacing the rooflights may also be an option to cure leaks in these roofs.

Asbestos/Cement Roofs

Over time Cement bonded fibre roofs can crack or become porous. It is possible to overlay these damaged sheets with GRP overlay sheets.

The new overlay sheets are designed to a weight of at least 2.6kg/square metre and incorporate an additional woven glass-reinforcing mat. The weather face of the new sheets is treated with a gel coat to provide UV protection. We can match most common profiles.

Replacing the rooflights may also be an option to cure leaks in these roofs.

Flat Roofs

Sometimes it is not necessary to treat the whole roof and often budget restraints mean that it is not viable to do so. In certain cases it may be possible to address specific areas of the roof such as upstand details around the perimeter and around roof lights.

Patch repairs with a purpose manufactured coating may also be an option.

Gutters

Gutters can be cleaned to enable us to carry out localised repairs.

For additional repairs please see our Pipes, Flues and Copings page.

During July 2018 we carried out some repair work at a yacht yard in Hamble, Hampshire.

In total 80 no. old translucent rooflights were replaced with new translucent roof sheets which increased natural daylight within the buildings as well as curing a number of leaks.

3 no. gutters were leaking so we fitted new liners. Two different systems were used due to the different types and condition of the guttering.

A Unifold gutter was fitted to 1 no. gutter whilst a flexible gutter liner was fitted to other 2 no. gutters.

To cover over damaged sheets a number of matching profile overlay sheets were fitted.

The 1st two pictures show some of the rooflights and one of the gutters whist the 3rd and 4th picture are after and before shots of one of the gutters.

During the heatwave in June 2018 we replaced 42 no. old rooflights with new translucent roof sheets in a warehouse roof in Morden, Surrey. This increased the natural daylight transmission as well as ensuring the rooflights weren’t leaking.

The existing roof fixings were rusting and we therefore replaced them with new precision formed fixings with integral heads.

In addition we fitted 2 no. flashings to ensure pipes that protrude through the roof were effectively sealed and removed 1 no. redundant pipe and fitted flashings over the exposed hole to ensure it is effectively sealed.

During June 2018 we re-clad 2 no. walls on a leisure centre roof in Lancing, West Sussex.

The original wall covering had been damaged by vandals.
We fixed spacer purlins to the walls to provide a framework for new single skin steel cladding to be fitted. The cladding was finished with new coping flashings at the top of the cladding and new trim flashings around the vents and door.

We also had to replace a lead flashing (that had been stolen) with a new steel flashing and we carried out repairs to holes in the single ply roof surface.

In May 2018 we fitted 2 no. new opening rooflights into a pitched steel roof which was situated over the offices in Guildford Surrey.

The rooflights had new ski-slope flashings fitted all round to ensure the area was water-tight. Additional flashings were also fitted to divert the water away from the new domed rooflights.

The new rooflights let additional natural light into the rooms below. They are also able to open to provide ventilation and to help the heat escape on hot days.
